GRINDLETON playing fields is not quite the Olympic Stadium in Moscow; but it provided the setting for a mini Olympics — the Bowland District Brownie and Guide Revels — on Saturday. Some
of.the events,'such as the water race, dressing-up race,
wheelbarrow and egg and spoon races would also have raised a few eyebrows at the Olympics'proper, butjhey proved great fun for the 100 Brownies and Guides taking part. Winners fittingly received home-made gold, silver and bronze medals presented by Division Commissioner Mrs Pat Hould-
sworth. The overall winners were West Bradford, who earned most

A BEAUTIFULLY iced cake symbolised the 14th birthday of West Bradford ,W7 "whose members gathered for a celebration party at St Cathertne’s Sunday School. About 40 members enjoyed supper of hot-pot
and>apple pie and cream, following a talk by Mr John Hera (senior) on local history. He also recited poetry and told Lancashire jokes. Mem
bers presented him with a pot plant and he-was thanked by. the president Mrs Molly Mitchell.
Celebrations also included games of bingo and
singing, accompanied by Mrs McKenzie. ■ Mrs Mitchell is pictured (centre back) with
some of the members. The cake which was baked by Mrs Wallbank and iced by Mrs Leach.

Birthday fun at West Bradford
over the past few years there had been a change in the'provision of village facilities, such as trans port services,'shops, post offices and village schools.
The study, which will
be compiled from the re sults of a questionnaire, would discover the extent of these changes and their effect on village life.
He assured members

LEADER of the Ribble Valley Council, Coun Harry Riding, is recover ing well from a gall blad der operation.
. Coun. Riding, who rep resents Longridge, was home from hospital at Preston earlier this week. “ I hope to be back at work on Monday and defi nitely aim to be at the full council meeting the fol lowing night,” he said.
