YOUNG players at .Clitheroe Cricket Club ended the season with matches on Saturday and Sunday. The under-18 team, who are the Rib blesdale Youth League champions, made short work of a representative team chosen by John Pye, captain of the 2nd XI. His men scored 120 and the Youth side replied with 120 for. four, with Richard Thornton (68) and Christopher Musson (33) featuring in a winning second- wicket stand. Before the game the Youth Trophy was pre

'

sented to Clitheroe by Mr Wally Monk, Youth League secretary, and individual mementos were presented by Mr Ken Barnes, club chairman. ; The under-13 side, who play in the Lancashire

Colts’ Cricket League, entertained East Lanca shire at Chatburn Road on Sunday to decide the championship. The Clitheroe-youngsters (seated in our picture) had plenty of enthusiasm but the greater experience of the visitors proved to be the deciding factor.

Manchester Poly 0 Clitheroe 2

CLITHEROE’S first -vist to Manchester Poly technic provided them with two points from a very much one-sided game. Two goals did not indicate their superiority in an encounter in which a massed rearguard prevented them from netting a panful.

A HAT-TRICK by Jim Taylor underlined a much-improved performance by Clitheroe Re serves who had Boyd, Hum phreys and Waddington back in the line-up for their Blackburn Combination, Division Two, game against’Bangor Old Boys

at Whitebirk. Taylor went close after an

early move down the. middle and the visitors collected the quick goal they were seeking when skipper Tony Bush put them ahead by heading in Terry Steinhofel’s cross. However, the teams turned

round level as the Old Boys hit back with • a well-taken goal after catching the Clitheroe de

after the break but Clitheroe came through to reply with a bang. Taylor gave them the. lead from close ' range and Steve Musgrove crowned a right wing. run with a pass which Steinhofel headed home

at the far post. Taylor made. it four with a

shot from the edge of the box and then added the fifth goal of the match by rounding the keeper. This goal was set up by Boyd, a tower of strength at the back. John Taylor scored the sixth when he beat the advancing keeper.with a crisp

VICTORIA twice came back from being a couple of goals in arrears to share the points in a game of fast, end-to-end football.
