KEEPING THE BUSINESS RUNNING IN THE FAMILY
FROM wrestling in the professional ring as a light heavyweight, 1 7 years ago, . Bill Margerison retired to <
rwrestle” with
figures. “ I was about 28
when I retired, which is quite young, but I wanted to go into busi ness,’” he said.
By ANN KNOWLES His successes in the ring
continued in his business life and today he has his finger in several different companies. But he has never forgot
ten his wrestling days and admits that he is a keep-fit fanatic.
BUSINESS His luxurious home on
the Fylde coast has an indoor swimming pool,
gymnasium and sauna. Bill’s day starts most
mornings with a quick dip in the pool before begin ning his business commit ments. When he returns home each evening to his wife Juanita and their two sons, William aged eight and four-year-old James, he'dons a track suit ready for his four mile run.
Before his meal, he then
spends some time in the gym and half ah hour in the sauna before another dip in the pool.
“Then I ruin every
every night with an Indian meal," said Bill.
“My wife doesn’t cook it,
we send out for it,”, he added.
Bill admits that he is
very much a self made man and his secret for success is to work harder than any-, one else. “I went away oh holiday
last year for the first time in 12 years,” he admitted. He said: “I work men
tally so much overtime. When others switch off
and go to the golf club, I am busy thinking
adverts.” training
Apart from being the
owner of Prestons of Accrington, Bill also has a car trading company, BJM Sales, named after the youngest members of his family, sons William and James, who he hopes will one day take over his fur niture and car businesses,
do next week. Even while I am watchine television I am busy working out my
what to
leaving him to concentrate on his training.
The boys are starting
young with sales techini- ques. “Even at the break fast table they bring six or seven cars with them and pretend they are buying and selling to each other, said Bill.
His car company deals in
Rolls-Royces and Mer cedes, so appropriately Bill drives a willow gold Rolls himself, while his tall, attractive wife drives ■ a Mercedes Sports 350 SL.
His business life has <
always been so full that Bill, who is 44, has never I felt inclined to join any ] clubs or organisations.
“I’m very much a family
man at heart. I don’t go out at night, but enjoy going opt with my family at weekends,” he said. “One reason whyl feel I
have done so well is that I have always felt it was important to have a con tented home l i f e , ” he added.
A "wife’s place,he feels, i
should be in the home look ing after the children, leaving the husband to run the business affairs. For tunately, he said, he had an understanding wife who did not object when the telephone rang at home at 11 p.m. or even midnight. “I feel that it all has to
be a combined effort,” said Bill.
