A HIGH RESPONSE
STATISTICS compiled from the recent population
survey of the Ribble Val ley are now going through the computers at County Hall, Preston. There was an 86 per cent response to the survey which was carried out in conjunction with the regis ter of electors canvass.

Top of League The Gt Harwood office
of the Britannic Assurance Co., which covers the Rib ble Valley, did more new business in 1978 than any other North-West branch of the company.
THE Clitheroe Poppy Day total now stands at £1,128. Latest sums included £3 from Clitheroe Labour P a r ty and £5 fr om C litheroe Guides for wreaths; £7.50 from the exhibition; and £21.50 from the Clitheroe branch of the Royal British Legion.
THE 50 Clitheroe (Even ing) Townswomen’s Guild members who braved the Arctic conditions last Thursday night were rewarded with a delightful evening of slides by Mr Ronnie Carus. It was his second visit in
a matter of months. Mr Carus described his “holi day of a lifetime” — a visit to Australia. He managed to capture
the vastness of the country and also the bleakness together with many superb sightseeing shots of fam ous landmarks and places of great beauty. Obviously a lot of time
and thought had gone into compiling this presentation
and he certainly had a very appreciative audience. M r s Joan B i e h1e r
expressed appreciation on
behalf of all present. Mr P. Brennan assisted
Mr Carus to show the
slides. The competition for “My
favourite Christmas card” was won by M rs A . Cheetham, Mrs M. Ken drick and Mrs K. Bond. Mr Carus again asked
for his fee for the talk to be donated to the Leukaemia Fund. At the next meeting, on
February 1st, Mr G. D. Onslow, the Ribble Valley Council's Treasurer wi 1 speak about his week’s work. The Drama Group will
be holding a kitchen shower stall.
