Model engineers ready for the off at Roefield
MEMBERS of the Black burn Model Engineering Society have been busy dur ing the p a s t few months preparing the •track, engines and rolling stock, they are to set up at Roefield. Chairman of the Society,

IF Clitheroe, or any other Ribble Valley parish wants a better street cleansing service, they will have to be prepared to meet the extra cost themselves. This was the essence of

from Counci l lors Leo Wells, Bert Jones and John Walmsley (Waddington) at a meeting of the Council’s Public Works and Health Committee. Coun. Wells said after

the highway authority was only responsible for keep ing the streets in a saft

as that before 1974. As to unclassified roads,
Mr Black stated that the whole cost of sweeping these was borne by the borough before 1974. Fol lowing reorganisat ion these were taken over by the county, and the level of sweeping had been in prop ortion to that on classified
roads. Mr Black said that the
standard could only be raised if the county was reimbursed for the addi tional work by either the district council or the town council. This cost could be in the order of £2,500 a year, or more, depending on the amount of sweeping carried out.
