HENTHORN made the best possible start by scoring three goals in the opening 20 minutes, a deficit from which Rangers never, reco vered. Within 10 minutes Conti
found the net with a half volley. Geldard made it two with a curling free kick aided by a deflection, and Neil provided the third after a run which took him past two d e f e n d e r s before netting with a low shot. Henthorn' then relaxed a
little, allowing Whalley to come more into the game and open their account just before the interval. It did not take Green long
to restore the visitors’ three- goal lead and Whalley, who had played some neat foot ball, scored again before Conti made the game safe with a low shot, after Green had beaten the offside trap, and ended the scoring by completing a hat-trick. A good performance by a
Henthorn side lacking three regular players through injury, and in Brian Hitchen they had the man-of-the- match. Henthorn Res: Hall, Drewes,

THROUGH to the final of the Birtwistle Cup, Waddington have now to play a wait-and-see game before knowing whom they .will meet in the Ewood Park final. Cause of the holdup is an appeal
