RECORD progress has been made by the Blackburn Trus­ tee Savings Bank during the past year, the ,145th annual general meeting was told by the chairman, Col L. C. King-. Wilkinson, of Slaidburn. In his report, Col King-


Wilkinson said th a t the increase in balances due to depositors, at £6,366,681, had been the la rg e s t ever recorded in the history of the bank. Manager of local branch of Boots for 25 years


A FORMER manager of the Clitheroe branch of Boots the chemists, Mr Thomas Heiton Taft, of Milton Avenue, Clitheroe, has died aged 73.

Mr Taft, who died at his

He gained experience in a


Nottingham University, Mr Taft qualified as a pharmacist and became a relief manager for Boots’ North West area. He later became first man­ ager of a 24-hour branch of the chemists in Liverpool, moving to the Bacup branch in 1927. -Two years later he transferred to Darwen and in 1938 he moved to Clitheroe, retiring in 1963.

Change of heart
