and the choir is through the Vicar, the Rev. T. Green,and his cousin, Mr John Speak, a choir member. Four representatives of the
choir, including soloists, vis ited the church on Sunday and were pleased to find the acoustics just perfect. Tickets (25p) are on sale in
village shops.

Congregational Fellowship, the guests were members of the Lowergill Fellowship. The reader and speaker was Mr Jim Whitfield and members of the Lowergill group led the singing.

Preparing Arrangements fo r the
annual Christmas whist and domino drive on December 17th, in Chipping village hall, have been made by the Old
People’s Welfare Committee. Members heard a report on
a recent visit^ to the old people's forum in Clitheroe, and were told help was avail able for people returning from
hospital. There was also a talk on
housing, and a discussion on
the cost of transport. Members stood in silence in
memory of the late Mr George Bleasdale who was a com- mittte member. ^
Family affair A profit of £44.50 was made
for Chipping branch of the Con se rv a tive Association from a bring-and-buy sale organised by the Fletcher family, of “Brookfield,” Chip ping. Mr Tony Fletcher, his wife,
May,' and his sister, Miss Daphne Fletcher, organise a sale every year. Although they retired from the commit tee last year, Mr and Mrs Fletcher hope to carry on with the sales for many more • years. Raffle prizes were won by
Mrs Harrison (groceries), Miss Sephton (candle), Mrs E. Lawson (ham). Tea and bis cuits were also provided.
Success Chipping Cubs won the
Crompton Shield in the “Arrow Barrow” competition,
at Clitheroe. They had the most points in
the competition which is based on pack work during the year, and includes first aid and water safety. Now Chipping have won
two shields out of a possible four, having already taken the Brennan Sports Shield. Mrs Irene Preston, of Lon-
gridge Road, Chipping, is now the Cub’s Akala, having taken o v e r from Mrs E i le e n Freeman, who is leaving the district in the New Year. Second of the 11 Cub packs
whicli took part in the compet ition were Loyola, with St Mary’s third.

Demonstration There was a very good
attendance at Christ Church Mothers’ Union branch meet ing. The opening act of wor ship was taken by the Enrol ling Member — Mrs N. Mad- dock — and the pianist was Mrs A. Highton. The guest speaker was Mrs
Heales, of Waddington, who demonstrated the varied ways o f using Kake-brand — including novelties; cake icing and decorating and Christmas decorations. Mrs D. Frank- land thanked Mrs Heales for her demonstration. Refreshments were served
by Mrs Frankland, Mrs A. Palmer and Mrs Silverwood.

Dakin, of C lithe ro e , showed trans parencies of holidays spent in both the United States and Canada He showed many places with well-known names 8 Salt Lake City, Colorada, Arizona, Las Vegas, Califor nia, the Golden Gate Bridge, Chicago, Niagara F alls , De troit and Toronto. Mr Dakin was welcomed by Mrs A. Palmer and Mrs N. Clark who expressed thanks to him.
Friday Club Joanne Kay was admitted to
the girls’ Friday Club last week. An entertainment was provided by Amanda Reeves, Marie Reeves, Diane Ridg- way and Julia Turner. During the handicraft session the girls finished their Christmas cards and their next project will be the making of calen dars and decorations. A team game provided scope for their energy and before the closing prayers birthday greetings were sung for one of the lead ers, Mrs R. Porter.
Bible study Members of Chatburn
Methodist Fellowship met at the Manse to continue the study of the Epistle of James, chapter three. The minister, the Rev. P. M. G. Hood led the Bible study and the dis cussion which followed. There was also a time for prayer in which members were invited to take part. Refreshments were served by Mrs Hood.

slides of the life and breeding of the various kinds of fish, arrived with some of his national and international winners. He was thanked by chairman Mr A. Haworth.

tute were hosts to eight other institutes when they held a Christmas party at Calder- stones on Friday evening. About 120 people attended and Whalley WI members entertained with sketches and musical items. Games also added to the enjoyment of a wonderful evening. Standfast WI voiced their thanks to all the various institutes who have given them a warm wel come during the year.

enjoyed a visit to Padiham Power Station in company
'with parents. They were greeted by Mr Simpson, taken on a tour of the plant and saw a film about the Central Elec tricity Generating Board. Refreshments were provided and the visitors’ thanks were given by Cub Scout leader John Earnshaw. Thanks were also expressed to Mr R. Smith, Mr Hill, Mr Birch and Mrs S. Carter for providing transport.

Artistic Poetry and painting was the

Vital work A talk entitled “Why pick
on me?” about the work of the Church of England Children’s Society was given to members of Gisburn Young Wives by the Rev. Bullen, of Richmond. Also invited to the open
meeting were members of Waddington Mothers’ Union and Young Wives, and Gis
burn Mothers’ Union. Mr Bullen explained the
work done by the society and impressed on the audience how many tragic cases there- are and the loving care given to them. He was thanked by Mrs H. Crook. Members were invited to
attend the Mothers’ Union meeting a week on Tuesday when Chatburn photographer Mts A. Stretch will be tho speaker. There will also be a Jacob’s Join supper.
