Event News PEDALLING FOR PUBS Cycle Jordan to Kickstart Again Following COVID Delay

Charity initiative Pedalling for Pubs: Cycle Jordan, powered by KAM Media, is ready to relaunch following the gradual easing of Covid restrictions.


Originally due to kick off in June 2020, the challenge is now set to take place on 10th – 15th March 2022, and will see riders from across the hospitality industry take on all manner of weather conditions, tricky terrain and long distances as they cycle an eye-watering 335km across the country of Jordan.


With a fundraising target of £140,000, the challenge has already raised an incredible £75,000, with the total being distributed evenly between Only A Pavement Away and the Licensed Trade Charity, both of which have been fundamental in supporting those in need over the last 18 months and beyond.


The challenge has also received fantastic support from its sponsors Greene King, Punch Taverns and Wireless Social. Katy Moses, MD at KAM Media and the brains behind the challenge, said: “Pedalling for Pubs was an idea that came to me after I completed a 550km charity cycle in Vietnam back in February 2019.

I wanted to be part of creating a cohesive event that supported two very worthy charities and brought people from the hospitality industry together to do so.


“The Licensed Trade Charity does so much great work, as does Only A Pavement Away. The latter is especially close to my heart as my mother, who died a couple of years ago, used to teach in a prison, so the idea of getting people similar to those she taught into gainful employment really appeals.”


Participants in the challenge will spend the next six months training and working off any lockdown excess, as well as continuing to raise the profile of the initiative and encouraging those who are able, to donate. Of the 26 riders confirmed, all come from the hospitality and foodservice industries, including Clive Chesser of Punch Taverns, David Wigham of Admiral Taverns, Anthony Pender of Yummy Pubs (and former chairman of the BII), Katy Moses of KAM Media, Steve Alton of the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII), Mark Stretton of Fleet Street Communications, Geoffrey Campion of Chartwells UK, Julian Ross of Wireless Social, James Brown of Tipjar, as well as industry expert and Only A Pavement Away Trustee, Paul Pavli.


Greg Mangham, CEO of hospitality charity Only A Pavement Away said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to Katy for selecting us as one of the two chosen charities for this challenge. We know Katy holds Only A Pavement Away close to her heart, and the money raised will be absolutely critical in helping us support people facing homelessness, prison leavers and veterans into careers within the hospitality industry. The work we do is only able to happen through incredible acts of generosity such as this, and we wish every rider the best of luck in completing the challenge – we’ll be thinking of you in the crippling heat whilst we endure the English Springtime!”


James Brewster, CEO of the Licensed Trade Charity added: “What an incredible feat – 335km in just four short days to help support countless people in need across the hospitality sector. The money raised will be put towards a number of vital initiatives that we run across the mental wellbeing, housing, health, education and employment support landscapes, and it is a privilege to have been selected to put this money to its best possible use.
