I would much prefer to see prizes and awards be given out to artists that show great skill from years of practice, rather than a half baked concept that has been quickly thought up.


Artists should just produce beautiful art and not be solely focused on making some statement or preaching some deep meaning in their work. This is a recent obsession with new and some old artists and will hopefully pass as well.


This of course follows current social and political


trends whereby the general public are growing tired of being lectured to about what is acceptable to say and do and a lot of art/artists also do this. A lot of Art always follows these changes in public opinion and it seems like we are seeing the tide turn on what art is now catching the publics imagination. The current Turner and Constable Rivals & Originals exhibition at the Tate is amazing and well worth a visit. Showing that great classical art from 200 years ago is still as popular as ever. Pop Art and Pop Music comes and goes, but classical art and music are ever present and popular.
