JOHNSON’ S JEWEL LERS THE PERFECT ENGAGEMENT RING STYLES

10

Not only are engagement rings symbolic, they are also incredibly personal and, in essence, capture a love story and a relationship. With this in mind, finding the perfect engagement ring is just as, if not, more important than the proposal itself. In this guide, Johnson Jewellers explain the four main styles of engagement rings and the symbols behind them.

SOLITAIRE The most classic and timeless style: the solitaire setting. This setting features a single gemstone, usually a diamond, on a plain or more elaborate band of any metal. The gemstone can be of any cut; however, the most popular is a round brilliant cut. Solitaire is a timeless classic; one that can never be overshadowed by modern fashion trends. Some see the single stone to represent the singular love a couple have for one another. It is also the perfect setting to show off a high quality diamond, especially one highly rated in the 4C's.

CLUSTER A cluster setting features many small diamonds to either appear as one big stone or accentuate a larger centre stone, also called a halo setting. This can be one of the best statement pieces, perfect for anyone who loves a sparkle. Any cut diamonds can be used for the cluster; however, the most common is round brilliant diamonds. As the cluster setting can come in many cuts and designs, customers can be sure to find something personable to them: for example, some people see a halo as a symbol of everlasting love as there is no start or end to the ring of diamonds surrounding the centre stone.

TRILOGY The trilogy setting is said to symbolise the past, present and future of a relationship. It usually features a larger centre stone framed by two smaller stones on either side. The framing stones can be the same or a different cut. It can be a less sparkly alternative to a

cluster, perfect for those who wish for a more understated piece. Yet again, it's another timeless classic that can be cherished for years to come.

DIAMOND SHOULDERS This style can be combined with any of the previous settings to add even more sparkle. Diamond shoulders feature smaller diamonds going along the band of each side of the centre stone. It's the perfect way to add sparkle to any ring, while still keeping an air of simplicity. Add it to a simple solitaire setting or to a cluster to get the maximum sparkle out of your ring.
