JOHN BIDDELL A PAINTED ROOM HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!

Well, here we are in 2025. Donald Trump is about to enter The White House again and end all wars (so we’re told). Our newish government tells us things will improve but it’s a tough road ahead, and meanwhile we’re expecting the post-Christmas credit card statement to drop onto the mat any day now.

So, with all this impending joy, do we put our plans to make our homes more beautiful on hold, thinking that it’s an expense we could do without? Well no, not necessarily. While a full and thoughtful revamp of a room can undoubtedly be a costly undertaking, there is a much more economical option, that can at least liven up, and at best transform, our surroundings. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you . . . Paint.

Regular readers will know that we at John Charles Interiors champion The Little Greene paint company. With a small factory in the foothills of Snowdonia and a Head Office based in Manchester, Little Greene is an independent, family-run business (like us), and the only manufacturer still producing a complete range of traditional and modern decorative paints for all areas of the home. Little Greene’s environmentally friendly, child safe, water-based and oil-based paints are available in finishes for all walls, ceilings, floors and exteriors.

The quality of the paint is unrivalled, often using up to 40% more pigment than their rivals, which means it covers better than most. As a Platinum stockist, we at John Charles Interiors mix all their paints in our Edgbaston showroom. The decorators absolutely love it, as it is a joy to use and goes on so beautifully – unlike some other premium brands.

However, Little Greene is not the only bright star of the paint world. Paint & Paper Library was founded over twenty years ago in London by interior designer David Oliver. Providing inspiration, colour expertise and design ideas for interior decorators, architects and specifiers worldwide, they offer a distinguished palette of 180 unique colours. Like Little Greene, their paint is manufactured to exceptionally high standards in the UK, and has been officially accredited by RIBA, the Royal Institute of British Architects. We are also a major stockist of theirs, and as such mix and supply their entire range from our showroom.

So what can a humble tin of paint offer us to enhance our living space? Well, pretty much everything from a bit of a spruce up to a total change of mood. It all depends what you’re comfortable with, and how daring you’re prepared to be.
