AI in FM

Facilities Managers Risk Overlooking A Major Opportunity By Failing To Adopt AI

As FM portfolios grow, maintaining visibility across multiple sites becomes increasingly difficult. Reporting delays, fragmented oversight and inconsistent operational data often mean issues escalate before central teams can respond effectively.

models, including The State Of AI John Norris,

Commercial and Innovation Director at Samsic UK, explores how data-led oversight

AI-supported monitoring, are helping facilities teams regain operational control.

Research recently published by the CBRE shows

that John Norris fewer than

28% of UK businesses feel ready to implement

advanced AI. The reasons for slow adoption were cited as lack of knowledge,

For FMs, this hesitation could mean missing a clear chance to improve services while reducing resources used.

36 fmuk cost, availability and staff resistance.

What this means in practise is that common problems of multi-site portfolios can be avoided: reporting tends to

slow down and become inconsistent, supervision becomes hampered by increased blind-spots, and central teams are struggling to manage while inadvertently being kept from seeing the whole picture. The result of this is that minor issues that would otherwise be quick to resolve can escalate before FMs can act.

The CBRE report found that most businesses that have implemented AI are using it for text generation and creating meeting notes; perfectly useful applications but barely scratching the surface of what AI can help achieve. It’s a common, yet unfortunately blinkered view of AI’s potential. FMs can take advantage of the technology now and gain a competitive edge.

The real value of AI is not in replacing people but in supporting and enabling them. In multi-site portfolios, for example, cleaning can be data-led with dynamic cleaning protocols adapting to the building’s use. Using data, AI can support a more consistent approach to governance, rather than reducing the size of the team.
