A TRIBUTE TO MY FRIEND AND COLLEAGUE RONNIE L. FIRTH, D.C., DACBR
by Robert Tatum, D.C.
RONNIE L. FIRTH, D.C., DACBR (Main, `80), passed away on Friday, October 21, 2022. It’s difficult to express the feelings of loss you experience when your best friend passes away. More arduous is finding the right words for a suitable written memorial that captures who they were and what they meant to you, their colleagues and generations of students. Ronnie and I shared so many great experiences, memories I will forever cherish. Our endless discussions about the classes we taught, our competition to see who could make the first motion at faculty meetings and regular hallway deliberations. I will forever reminisce about our travels, attending radiology workshops, our annual student cookie contest and even our daily lunch break together. Ronnie was always quick to share stories about his family, especially his grandkids, of whom he was immensely proud. No matter the hardship, he always maintained a wonderful attitude as he overcame life’s difficulties with a smile.
Ronnie was a member of Palmer’s Radiology department for 41 years. His enthusiasm for teaching never wavered throughout his lengthy career. He loved teaching radiology, he loved his students and he loved knowing he had a role in their future practice success. It’s staggering to think of the thousands of students he passionately taught who went on to practice around the country and the globe. Palmer College is a better place due to his dedication to education. Ronnie Firth will be forever missed by his family and friends as well as by Palmer students, faculty, staff, administration and alumni.
I will always miss my best friend. He made my life better. He made everything better. As difficult as it might be, we will have to honor his memory by doing our best to continue to make Palmer even better. He would want that. May he rest in eternal peace.
HONORING THE LEGACY OF A SPORTS CHIROPRACTIC LEGEND: EDWARD FEINBERG, D.C., DACBSP®
by Chuck Bustillos EDWARD FEINBERG, D.C., DACBSP® (West, `83),
helped advance the field of sports chiropractic during four decades as an instructor, association officer and provider, serving each role with equal distinction and dedication, and making lifelong friendships along the way. Appointed to the Palmer West faculty in 1984, Dr. Feinberg helped create the Palmer West Sports Council in 1994. He served as the program’s faculty adviser until his retirement (with “Emeritus Faculty” honors) in 2021 and helped advance the field of sports chiropractic globally by speaking at events in Brazil, Canada, Chile, Denmark and Egypt.
In 2011, Dr. Feinberg became the first college faculty member to receive the ACA Sports Council’s “Sports Chiropractor of the Year” award. In 2019, the profession’s premier sports chiropractic organization rebranded the student award presented at their annual Symposium to the “Ed Feinberg ACA Sports Council Student of the Year” award. “In terms of sports chiropractic education, I don’t know if there’s been anyone more impactful over the years than Dr. Feinberg,” says Gregory Snow, D.C. (West, `90), Palmer West senior campus administrator and dean of academic affairs. “He left a lifelong legacy. It’s a testament to someone who spent half his life at Palmer West and in the chiropractic profession, making it better and making us better for it.”
“Dr. Feinberg always asked what our legacy would be — not really thinking about what his legacy would be,” says Richard Robinson, D.C., FICC (West, `96), who served as inaugural president of the founding Palmer West Sports Council and since graduating has provided care for Team Canada at five Olympic games.
“I’m so proud to have called him my friend and mentor, for the legacy he created for the profession and for helping me and many of my colleagues to achieve our goals and excel in sports chiropractic.”
