Port Orange campus is undergoing master plan

NEWS & NOTES Clinic updates bring Palmer to the community

Every Palmer College of Chiropractic student’s experience is shaped by their time in the clinic. “Clinic time is a top priority for our students,” says Dennis Marchiori, D.C., Ph.D. (`90), chancellor and CEO. “Clinical experience is formative. Tat experience puts students in touch with patients, and they see firsthand the power of what they are learning.” Tat’s why Palmer College is now investing in major updates to clinic spaces on both

the Palmer Main and Florida campuses. In Port Orange, renovations will prioritize the patient experience, a student computer

lab and faculty offices. “For many people, the clinic is their first experience with Palmer,” says Heather Bowyer, D.C., CCSP®, CPC-A (`06), dean of clinics at Palmer Florida. “We want that first impression to be wonderful. With every detail, we’re going to make the clinic more attractive and functional than ever.” Te renovation of two floors in the Harold & Marie Bechtel Center on the Main

campus will include expanded classrooms and flexible spaces for the growth of rehabilitation therapies. “We’re designing for the future,” says Tara Schulz, M.B.A., executive director of clinical operations. “Student enrollment is at an all-time high, which means this is the moment to reach more patients than ever. Tis is an investment in our students and the bright future of Palmer.”

As Palmer Florida transitions to a trimester schedule, cohorts and classes will grow. Couple this with record interest and enrollment, and it’s clear that more space is needed as the College looks toward the future. Tat’s why Palmer College is now developing a new Florida campus master plan. “Te main goal of this plan is to create additional ‘soſt spaces’ for students,” says Campus President William Sherrier, D.C., M.A. “Tat means study spaces, hangouts, rooms to relax and more great dining options. Many of our students spend full days on campus, and right now, we don’t have enough options for them to use their time between classes productively. Tis plan is going to make Palmer Florida a complete campus. Our infrastructure will match our culture.” Currently, the College is selecting an

architect for the project before the design process starts in earnest. “I love this part of the process,” says Dr. Sherrier. “We’re bringing together students, faculty and staff in focus groups to figure out as a team what we want to see in this new space. We went through this process as we created Building 4, and it turned into a very special building. I know that’s going to be true of these new spaces as well.” Dr. Sherrier plans to share more details

about the plan and timeline in March at Homecoming 2025 in Port Orange.
