Green manures can help suppress weeds, reduce soil erosion and improve soil structure. Grow green manures on bare ground
over winter, or in between crops during summer.
5/5 Sow hardy manures in late summer and autumn and leave
them to stand over winter before cutting down in spring. Fast-
growing half-hardy manures can be sown in summer in between crops. Check seed packets for
sowing instructions for each type of green manure.

then dig them in to the top 25cm of soil. As they break down, the plants release chemicals that inhibit germination, so wait 2-3 weeks
