Broad Beans
Packed with protein, vitamins and fibre, beans are one of the heroes of the vegetable garden. Succulent French and runner beans are always a favourite on the summer menu, and broad beans add delicious depth and substance to soups and stews. The more you pick, the more they produce, and with their colourful flowers, beans even look good growing in your flower beds!
Beans like a fertile soil in full sun, and climbing varieties will quickly scramble up cane wigwams or other supports. Sow broad beans in early winter or early spring, runner beans from April onwards and French beans after the last frosts.
