Comets blazing a trail
The Comet airport tractors, continuously developed by MULAG for almost half a century, are available today with diesel, electric, hybrid or hydrogen fuel cell drives. Each drive technology has certain advantages, allowing customers to choose the optimum one for its needs. The innovative drive concepts are all characterised by high quality and reliability. The technically mature solutions also bring great advantages in terms of necessary maintenance due to documentation and component accessibility. Compared with other solutions on the market, MULAG’s Comet airport tractors excel with high quality that is ‘Made in Germany’. This results in low downtimes and high availability. One of the fundamental considerations in the design of airport tow tractors is compliance with all relevant standards and local regulations at airports to produce a safe product that meets customer requirements. Another important factor for MULAG is the ergonomics of the vehicle so drivers stay healthy while working.
High demands on flexibility and quality are placed on the vehicles, resulting in low downtime and robust technology. By means of clever modular construction, the usability of individual components is optimised to make corresponding spare parts storage more efficient.
In the full range of airport tractors available, the smallest electrical tractor, the Comet 3 E, is ideally suited for baggage handling with its 20kN drawbar pull and a deadweight of 3.7t, driving up to 30km/h. The heavier electrical Comet 4 E has a deadweight of 4.7t and can handle baggage and light cargo. The low-voltage Comet 6 E has a deadweight of 6.5t, a powerful two- circuit regenerative brake system and heavy- duty axles – ensuring operators are well- prepared for demanding cargo applications. Rounding up the electrical airport tractor range is the newly developed high-voltage Comet 6 E-HV, with even more power for heavy cargo applications. The classic range of diesel tractors integrates solutions with high-end fuel saving technologies, with different performance levels available from three to 12t cargo tractors.
