Every year, the industry ships cargo worth more than $1trn, so there is a lot at stake in terms of product, as well as patient safety and therapeutic outcomes, should there be any disruption, mishandling, container defects or temperature range excursions.

“Several key factors are expected to shape global supply chains in 2025, with potential disruptions on multiple fronts,” explains Sonia Ben Hamida, IATA’s head of special cargo. “Ongoing conflicts, including those in Eastern Europe and the South China Sea, will contribute to uncertainty and operational challenges.”
