systems, including suspension materials. In addition, Lautex manufactures custom-made ceilings in accordance with clients’ individual needs. A supplier to a major passenger shipbuilding project has to be flexible, because each architect has their own way of proceeding on the project, says Jukka-Pekka Tuominen, sales manager at Lautex. The company, which celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2021, supplies suspended metal ceilings for the shipbuilding and construction industries. Some architects decide quite early on in the project what type of ceiling they want the new ship to feature, while others leave the final decision much closer to the date when the deliveries should begin, he noted.

“As far as ferries are concerned, you can say that there is growing interest in spending more money on ceilings on board them. If we look at the construction of Tallink (by Rauma Marine Constructions), the materials chosen for that ship differ markedly from the company’s previous project – more special materials will be used on the new ship,” Tuominen said. The company manufactures panels using either aluminium or steel, 0.4–0.7mm in thickness. It recently introduced a new product called LTK360, which has B15 fire rating and is easily removable. This is important on passenger vessels as access

All Morbern materials are durable and easy to clean.

Morbern is North America’s leading designer and producer of decorative vinyl upholstery for the contract, healthcare, hospitality, transportation, trucking, automotive and marine markets. The company creates innovative vinyls that meet the challenges of the design and engineering industries, effortlessly balancing durability, performance and style. The pandemic has driven many interior professionals to assess the materials used for new-build and refurbishment projects. Marine-coated fabrics are an ideal choice, as they are treated with biocidal active substances to inhibit the growth of microbes like bacteria and viruses. The smooth, non-porous and durable surface of coated fabrics is highly resistant to scratches and cracks, where microbes may thrive. They are also easy to clean, which promotes good maintenance practices by simplifying disinfection methods. All Morbern IMO MED- certified fabrics are resistant to bleach – the main disinfection agent recommended by the ECDC for Covid-19 preventative cleaning – and can also be disinfected using alcohol-based products such as hydrogen peroxide and isopropyl alcohol, without any risk of fading or deterioration over time.

Morbern’s IMO MED collection includes Americana, a high- resolution digitally printed upholstery fabric suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications. Printing on vinyl is not difficult, but real expertise is required to achieve high-resolution printing capable of withstanding high seating traffic, rigorous cleaning and all-weather environments. Morbern has perfected the durability of printed vinyl by adding proprietary wear layers over the digitally applied ink. This enables the Martindale abrasion to meet 300,000 cycles – much more than any other digitally printed product on the market – and also provides excellent bleach resistance. Alongside the Americana range available by the roll, Morbern’s state-of-the-art digital print technology offers total creative flexibility – from custom patterns to corporate branding – turning design dreams into reality. Digital print patterns are available in four different embossing textures, offering an additional choice of finish.

The ultimate marine battery

robust, safe and reliable. The advantages of lithium batteries compared with those of lead- acid, gel or AGM have become increasingly accepted in the marine industry.

Each Super B contains an integrated battery management system.

Netherlands-based Super B has been manufacturing high- quality lithium batteries since 2007. Super B’s high-end lithium iron phosphate batteries are developed and manufactured to outperform lead-acid batteries on the road, on the water or off the grid. Its lithium batteries offer a tremendous amount of energy in a small, lightweight and maintenance-free box that’s

Super B recently expanded its product portfolio with the Nomada 12V105Ah. This newly developed weight-saving, fast- charging, long-life and high- power battery comes with a wide range of benefits. The Nomada 12V105Ah is a modular lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) rechargeable battery with a rated capacity of 105Ah. The battery has a compact and lightweight modular design, making it easy for customers to scale up their energy system. The Nomada has been certified by DNV GL and is designed for use as a system battery, which makes it an excellent fit for large battery banks in the marine industry. While most lithium batteries are manufactured in low-cost countries, quality is often compromised. The internal construction and cell quality of a Super B battery make for a robust product – the company states a lifetime of 3,500 cycles at 100% depth of discharge. Therefore, even if the battery is completely discharged every day, it will last for at least ten years. Many competitive products would have difficulty replicating this performance. Super B has a patented a technique to weld the cells together to create minimal resistance. The advantages of this include efficiency, a high discharge rate and very little heat generation. Each Super B also has an integrated battery management system (BMS). Any battery is only as good as its weakest cell, but the BMS keeps all cells the same. In addition to balancing, the BMS controls temperature, voltage, current and state of charge. If it detects a fault it shuts down the battery to avoid damaging it.
