Raw materials


€0.90–0.95. Lighter selections under 32kg dropped by €0.25 to €0.75–0.80. French Bretagne 32kg and under were down just €0.05, selling at €1.05-1.10/ kg. The 32kg and up selection dropped €0.05–0.10, selling at €1.05–1.15.


The French bull market saw prices increase, but by the end of March it was facing a potential downturn. French Bretagne selections 37kg and up were selling for €1.50–1.60. The under 37kg selection was at €1.25–1.30. Among central French hides, the 37kg and up was selling for €1.30–1.40 and the 37kg and under category was unchanged at €1.10–1.15.


Germany


German cow hide prices were trending downward, although at the end of March, prices were still


slightly higher than as previously reported. The 25kg and up north German cows were at €0.70– 0.75/kg, while lighter weights of 15–24kg were selling at €0.75–0.85. Cow hide prices in southern Germany were in the same situation: 40kg and up selections traded at €1.15–1.20/kg. The 30–39kg selections were the exception, having dropped €0.05 to sell at €0.95–1.00.


After having seen a few increases, German heifer prices dropped. Northern German 25kg and up were softer at €0.85–0.90/kg and the price was €0.95–1.00 for the 15–24kg from the same region. Southern German heifers 40kg and up were at €1.30, and the 30–39kg selection remained steady at €1.15. Abundant slaughter and stocks of semi-finished hides had slaughterhouses lowering their offer prices for bulls at the end of March. North German bull selections at 40–49kg fell to €0.80–1.10/kg. Southern German bulls dropped €0.05 and were selling at €1.40–1.45 for the 40–49kg selections.


Greece


Lamb and sheepskins from Greece saw some prices increase in Q1 2023. Sales of lamb skins (70/20/10) were


up $10 at $110-130 per dozen, pickled. Lamb skins (C2) remained steady, selling for $45 to $50 per dozen, pickled.


India


India’s buffalo market prices were higher in the first months of 2023. Crust 1.4–1.6mm was trading at $0.65/ ft². Crust 0.9–1.1mm was similarly higher at $0.55.


Iran


Iranian markets remained steady for the top mutton and goatskin selections. Mutton skins (AB) were


still flat at $130 per dozen, pickled. Super mutton skins were also unchanged at $60. Prices on medium goat skins remain steady at $15.


Italy


Italian cow sales were reported at €0.60–0.65/kg at the end of March. Italian bull prices were at €1.10–1.15 for 40kg and up average green weight. Regarding Italian veal, the demand for skins drove prices higher. The 18kg and up was selling at €4.70–5.40/kg. Selections under 18kg were also higher at €4.20–4.70/kg.


Netherlands


Starting the year at steady levels, Dutch veal prices rose in February and March. The 12.5kg selections were selling at €4.60–5.10. Skins at 16.5kg increased to €5.50–6.00. Dutch cow hides were selling for €0.70–0.75/kg. All prices quoted are on material delivered to northern Italian tanneries on a 30-day payment schedule.


New Zealand


Some of New Zealand’s market prices lifted in Q1 2023. Wet-blue ox, selection 70/30%, 20–24kg, was up $3.00 at $50


per piece. Heavier 27kg and up was unchanged at $68. Wet-blue heifer prices rose by $2 to $49 for the 18–23kg selection. Wet-blue cows, selection 70/30% were steady, selling at $27 for 14–18kg.


Nigeria


Nigerian raw material remained stable through March. Cross lamb A was steady at €2.70/ft² crust. ABC goat


skins were likewise unchanged at €1.50/ ft².
