Kadant Carmanah and Hexion enter collaborative partnership

Kadant Carmanah Design and Hexion Inc have entered into a collaborative partnership to jointly advance innovation in the wood processing industry. Kadant Carmanah produces

OSB stranding technology for OSB producers, while Hexion is a leading global producer of adhesives and performance materials solutions, which also has the Smartech business specialising in AI manufacturing technologies in the wood-based panels sector. “As the global leader of stranding equipment used in the manufacturing of OSB panel production, our collaborative partnership with Hexion and its Smartech artificial intelligence (AI) technology is the natural evolution for our flagship SmartRING strander product line and Argus smart- connected technologies platform,” said Todd Macey, president of Kadant Carmanah Design. “By integrating Hexion’s

world-class AI-driven autonomous manufacturing solutions with Kadant Carmanah’s expertise in stranding equipment and technology, together we will help our OSB customers produce better quality strands, improve strander production, and prevent unexpected downtime of the strander.” Michael Lefenfeld, president

and CEO of Hexion, said the benefit of this collaborative partnership for OSB producers will be full visibility and connectivity throughout the entire manufacturing process – from the strander, to the dryer, to the blender, to the forming line, to the press. “As OSB wood rooms

continue to face labour challenges and the high variability of log inventory management, Hexion’s advanced AI and machine learning technology will help stabilise the quality of strands from the strander,” he said.

In the past, the composite nature of fibreboards made them unsuitable for recycling, resulting in widespread disposal through landfills or incineration. Osiris overcomes these challenges by enabling the separation and reuse of waste fibres, integrating them with virgin wood to produce new boards.

Osiris is available for

licensing through Unilin in collaboration with its partner Dieffenbacher, which provides the necessary machinery and equipment integration. The Osiris technology was

showcased by Unilin’s Panels division at Interzum in Cologne and by Dieffenbacher at LIGNA in Hannover. Unilin Technologies is a key

player in the flooring industry, known for its licensing business model for innovative technologies. The company has gained widespread recognition for introducing the widely used click systems Uniclic, Unidrop and Unipush, establishing itself as a leader in laminate and resilient flooring products.

Polish customs and Fiscal Service officers have detained three people in connection with a birch plywood shipment suspected of violating sanctions imposed by the European Union (EU) on imported wood products from Belarus and Russia. Poland’s Masovian National

Fiscal Administration (KAS) is investigating the case following the inspection of a plywood warehouse in April. The suspects have been charged and placed in pre-trial detention for three months. The investigation is under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw. According to a KAS

statement, officers have determined that a Polish company is importing Belarusian birch plywood through companies from Kazakhstan, thus violating the sanctions imposed on Belarus and Russia.

The suspects’ places of residence, office premises and warehouses in the Mazovian, Wielkopolska and Podlaskie provinces were searched. Among other things, accounting documentation, electronic equipment and plywood located in the warehouses were secured. Samples of the goods were also taken for laboratory tests. The detainees were charged in the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw with, among others, customs fraud and committing a crime involving a violation of sanctions. According to the statement, the accused could face a sentence of imprisonment of three years and a fine if found guilty.
