HYDROGRID adds two North American hydropower operators to digital optimisation portfolio HYDROGRID has announced two new North American clients – Great River Hydro and Portage Power (Hydro Ottawa Group) – who will implement the company’s HYDROGRID Insight platform to support operational planning, inflow forecasting and dispatch optimisation. The Vienna-based software provider said
the projects reflect growing demand from hydropower operators for digital tools that integrate hydrological, operational and market data into a single workflow. Great River Hydro, an independent power
producer owned by Hydro Quebec, operates a large conventional hydropower portfolio in New England. The company will introduce HYDROGRID Insight across six plants on the Connecticut River cascade, representing a combined installed capacity of 507.7 MW. The deployment will bring together inflow information, partly supplied by a third-party provider, alongside operational constraints, ISO New England market conditions and planning data within a single decision-support environment.
HYDROGRID said the system is intended
to support operator workflows and provide a consolidated operational view while maintaining compliance with the complex
regulatory framework governing the cascade. Jason Canaday, Head of Operations at
Great River Hydro, said: “Our partnership with HYDROGRID builds a more unified view of the information our teams rely on every day, helping us make well-informed decisions across a complex system. HYDROGRID supports our broader efforts to continually refine and streamline operations through digitalization, allowing us to access and interpret key data quickly and efficiently.”
Portage Power, the power generation subsidiary of Hydro Ottawa Group, will deploy the platform with a different configuration focused on inflow forecasting and asset monitoring. The company operates hydroelectric facilities in Ontario, Quebec and New York State. HYDROGRID Insight will be used to integrate inflow forecasting, portfolio management and monitoring functions within a single workflow. According to the company, the setup has been tailored to support plant-specific operational requirements while maintaining a clear structure for day-to-day operations. Oluseyi Smith, Director Generation, Engineering and Operations at Portage Power, said: “For a small and agile team like ours, having forecasting and planning connected within one tool makes day-to-day operations more predictable. HYDROGRID will help us respond to market signals with greater ease and
support a smoother, more cohesive workflow overall. It aligns well with our ongoing efforts to enhance efficiency across the portfolio we manage in New York State.” HYDROGRID said the agreements reflect wider industry interest in digital decision- support tools that help operators manage hydrological variability, regulatory constraints and market participation. “These new collaborations further underscore how our approach can add value in many different hydropower contexts,” commented Janice Goodenough, CEO of HYDROGRID. “With HYDROGRID Insight, our goal is to provide a dependable and adaptable decision-support tool that strengthens planning processes and supports operators across a wide range of hydrological and operational conditions.” According to the company, operators adopting digital water management platforms typically aim to improve coordination between teams, integrate inflow forecasting with operational planning, and respond more quickly to market conditions while maintaining environmental and regulatory compliance. HYDROGRID Insight combines inflow
forecasting, predictive dispatch planning and real-time management of environmental and regulatory constraints in a modular platform designed to support hydropower assets ranging from 1 MW to more than 1 GW worldwide.
