ALBERTA UPDATES ALL TERRAIN CRANE PERMITTING POLICIES
In the province of Alberta, Canada, governmental body Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors has announced the approval of the All-Terrain Crane Pilot Project tested weights. This means that increased weights are now permanently allowed for all-terrain cranes in Alberta, Canada. In a letter addressed to the Canadian
Crane Rental Association (CCRA), Devin Dreeshen, Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors, writes: "Your industry's dedication and commitment to growing Alberta's economy is greatly appreciated. Effective March 1, 2024, Transportation and Economic Corridors will update its permitting policies to permanently allow increased weights for all terrain cranes on Alberta roads, aligning with the weights allowed during
the project. This change will reduce red tape for industry and provide certainty for your members on all terrain cranes' road operating requirements." The policy change was effected thanks to campaigning by the CCRA’s Weights and Dimensions Committee, which was set up in 2017 to address weights and dimensions in Alberta and quickly expanded to other provinces. The model includes manufacturers, crane rentals companies and engineers who provide ministries of transportation with industry information, data, and research. “We took a collaborative approach, with industry and with government,” added Mike Lavoie, committee co-chair. “We learned from one another, improved safety, reduced costs and saved lives,” concluded Lavoie.

TWO NEW HEAVY-DUTY TEC LOADER CRANES FROM PALFINGER
Austrian manufacturer of hydraulic lifting, loading and handling systems Palfinger has launched two new heavy duty loader cranes: the PK 1350 TEC and PK 1650 TEC. Palfinger says they
are designed for special and high load capacity applications.
The PK 1650 TEC has a
38.7 metre outreach and a lifting capacity of 124.8 metre tonnes. The PK 1350 TEC has also an outreach of 38.7 metres (inc. jib) and a lifting capacity of 109.3 metre tonnes. The cranes have
Palfinger’s Paltronic 180 control electronics and the LX-6 control valve designed for manoeuvrability.

The system has dual-circuit hydraulics to ensure there isn’t a shortage of hydraulic power, particularly for tasks that require several functions at the same time.
Palfinger’s TEC models can be spec’d The new PK 1650 TEC
with Smart Control intelligent crane tip control system. This, Palfinger says, combines the crane movements in the background to achieve the exact position desired. The Memory Position system stores up to four crane positions while the Levelling Assistant can save time by up to 80 percent while adjusting the setup. “We have created a completely new class of crane that combines the best hardware with smart software,” claims Andreas Klauser, CEO of Palfinger. “ The two new loader cranes take the total number in Palfinger’s TEC range to 11.
