APRIL 2022 Ӏ JOB OF THE MONTH


This month’s Job of the Month goes to the relocation of a 53 tonne Newton Chambers Koehring (NCK) crane owned by UK port, ABP Ipswich. The port commissioned marine contractor Red7Marine to relocate the crane from West Bank Quay, across the River Orwell, to Cliff Quay utilising its Haven Seajack 4 jack-up barge. The Haven Seajack 4 has a 100 tonne deck capacity. The barge was


towed from Red7Marine’s yard in the Port of Ipswich on high tide by Taska Marine’s Taska 1204 Workboat. The Haven Seajack 4 was towed into location with its legs up and the


hull floating on the water. Once on-site at West Bank Quay, Red7Marine’s Barge Masters began operations to jack the legs down onto the riverbed to provide a stable working platform and to position the barge to quay level. Once at quay level, ABP’s crane was then transferred and tracked onto


the jack-up barge and secured for relocation across the river. After a short tow across the river the barge reached its final destination


at Cliff Quay where the crane was tracked off. The relocation was completed within one day. Kristen Branford, managing director of Red7Marine, said, “This was


a great local project for us and highlights our team’s ability to offer a full turn-key package to our clients… Our engineers completed all risk and method statements, site-specific assessments, floating stability checks and leg penetration assessments in-house ahead of the project commencing to ensure the barge could operate in the working environment.”
