SECTOR REPORT Ӏ RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION
customers use a big self-erector or a small top-slewing tower crane depends largely on the custom of their country. It often also depends on the duration of the on-site job. The fact that self-erecting cranes can be easily transported with maximum two trucks (or for the biggest Igo T 3 trucks, one for the crane and two for the ballast), one towing the crane and the other for ballast, is a good argument here: top-slewing cranes requires more truck. Our self-erector customers base remains stable, even if the trend is now often to go for heavier prefabricated parts. Even so, self-erectors, powerful as they are, have limits and will never be able to compete with the larger top slewing cranes for really heavy lifts.” As he says, and as our picture
below of Potain hammerhead cranes giving shape to a major new residential development in Pune, in India, shows, despite all our examples of housebuilding with smaller, lighter, cranes there are still cases where the traditional tower crane is still needed. Housing is still going to offer a use and a market to almost very kind of crane.
LiebheRR fast-eRectoR on MalloRca
A Liebherr 53 K fast-erecting crane constructed a family house with pool for a German family on the island of Mallorca. The small space requirement was particularly decisive for the choice of the
Liebherr fast-erector: the turning radius was only two-and-a-half metres with appropriate ballasting. This turned out to be beneficial for the construction of the single-family house in the densely built-up area. Ease of installation and ease of use were also appreciated by crane operator Grúas Cerezo. The 4.2 t capacity 53 K is extremely variable in its radius – of up to 40m
- and hook height. Up to three tower sections can be installed using its fast climbing equipment. The crane can therefore be adjusted to various situations, with seven different hook heights up to 31m. The 53 K , says Liebherr, is suitable for building multi-occupancy houses with up to eight storeys.
