Sandvik has introduced a new drill rig and with its resin systems the manufacturer has introduced a new end- to-end bolting system and also launched an automatic injection pump. Meanwhile, on projects its existing equipment has performed in international tunnel project, including in Italy and Japan. Production facilities in Finland and Canada are being expanded.

EXPANDING FACILITIES Sandvik is investing about Euro15 million (US$17.5 million) to expand operations in Tampere, Finland, with a focus to extend the main building and create multi-purpose work and development spaces. Construction is due to start later this year for completion by 2028. A major part of Sandvik’s business related to the development and production of drilling equipment

(underground and surface) is located in Tampere. The new extension is part of the company’s larger investment in recent years in both the site, which saw about 300 new employees hired in 2025, and more generally in Finland. Investment is also underway in Greater Sudbury in

Ontario, with official groundbreaking for a state-of- the-art facility at the end of last year. The new facility in Canada – with Can$85 million (US$62 million) to be invested by Sandvik plus receiving up to Can$4 million of provincial grant, subject to agreement – is to replace another plant, in Lively, that has been operating for more than 40 years. The new factory is to double workshop capacity while helping to serve growing demand for equipment maintenance, electrification capabilities, efficient service turnaround, says Sandvik. It is to be completed in Q3-2027.

NEW EQUIPMENT DD423i drill rig Among its new equipment launched recently, Sandvik introduced the DD423i, primarily as a next-generation automated development drill rig, built on the DD422i used in mining and underground works since 2015. The new rig increases performance in productivity, intelligence and reliability, the company says. It adds that it provides more than a third more drilling

coverage and improves nearly by half the cross-cut performance. The cabin has improved visibility and reduced noise levels for operators. The DD423i introduces new SB75i booms with double roll-overs for better reach in confined spaces. The rig has automatic boom movements and integrated boom-collision avoidance. Field testing in hard, abrasive rock in Boliden, Sweden, achieved over 95% machine availability. The DD423i is fully compatible with Sandvik’s digital mining solutions, including iSURE, DrillConnect, iNav total station navigation, My Sandvik Remote Monitoring.
