WTC IN MONTRÉAL The World Tunnel Congress 2026 meets in Montréal, mid-May.
Canada is hosting the World Tunnel Congress 2026 in Montréal. In mid-May, the WTC 2026 gathering is preceded by
optional pre-event training courses organised by ITA- CET (15-16 May); then, following the Opening Ceremony of the ITA-AITES congress, and the Muir Wood Lecture and Keynote speeches, the main scientific programme will run on parallel tracks over three days (18-20 May). There are also social activities, technical visits, and
of course many opportunities to meet and talk with the event sponsors and exhibitors. The gathering has been organised by the Tunnelling Association of Canada (TAC).
MORE DETAIL The training courses are arranged in four themes, each given a half-day, and are: Site Investigation/ Geocharacterisation; Excavation and Ground Control Methodology/Selection; Contracting/ Delivery Methods; and, Safety, Sustainability and Innovation. The Muir Wood Lecture is to be given by leading
tunneller Remo Grandori. The Keynotes are on: deep disposal of radioactive waste by Dr Karina Lange of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA); and, city development by urban planner Larry Beasley. The scientific programme for WTC 2026 includes the following themes:

Technical Visits include the host city’s Metro Blue Extension project and the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel rehabilitation project.
