recently raised its forecasts for global container port volumes this year. But at the same time, the UK-based consultancy warned that terminal operators face pressure on profits margins if revenues continue to stagnate while operating costs rise. The latest date from Container Trades Statistics (CTS) further underlines the issue – falling container rates. In July, global container

throughput was up 4.5% on the same period last year; but the global price index fell further to just 84 points – a full 34 points lower than July 2024.

What does this decoupling of demand and rates mean for terminal operators? We expect it to translate into a renewed focus on efficiency. Port equipment that can help improve throughput, reduce labour costs and boost productivity will become even more important. And, this month, the best place to find companies who can provide these solutions will undoubtedly be TOC Americas. In this edition of Dockside Lift & Move you can find our comprehensive guide to the show, including key exhibitors as well as our pick of the conference sessions. When it comes to problem solving, Greenfield Products has a proven track record. We talked to Anthony Calamino about the company’s capabilities in delivering custom solutions – and how his experience as a rail terminal manager helps give him an even better perspective on the industry. A logistical pinch point can often be intermodal container handling – but again the industry is rising to the challenge. We examine this specialist niche to find out what is driving innovation. And finally, our regional report is a deep dive into a diverse and dynamic Latin America. While it is not immune to the impacts of tariffs and geopolitics, closer trade ties to China are among several drivers for growth. These articles demonstrate just how varied our industry can be. We hope you find this edition’s topics as interesting as we do – and we’ll see you in Panama.
