MINING | APPLICATION REPORT
SIEMAG TECBERG IN CHINA
Early in 2022 Siemag Tecberg started on the installation of three sets of hoisting and conveying systems to be divided between two shafts in the Sishanling iron ore mine near the city of Benxi in the Province of Liaoning in China. The mine is one of the largest iron ore mines currently being opened up in China. It has 2.5 billion tons of proven reserves with an average iron content of about 31 % - the largest such deposits in China. Long-term planned extraction capacity is 30 million tons a year. Initially 15 million years.
The customer initially planned three
production shafts to be able to extract a total of 15 million tons a year. After intense consultation with Siemag Tecberg the concept was optimised to two shafts each yielding 7.5 million tons a year. A service shaft equipped with winders for personnel and machinery will also be sunk. Currently one production shaft and the service shaft have been completed. The immediate concept is therefore
for a double-skip hoisting system in the production shaft; and in the service shaft a cage-counterweight system for personnel and machine transport and also a smaller cage counterweight system for emergencies. Tianjin Siemag Tecberg won the hoist orders not least because of the company’s capacity for system integration of very large, deep and complex shaft hoisting systems. The production-shaft system, for raw
material extraction, has a tower-based 6-rope Koepe (ie friction-drum) hoisting machine, of 6.75m diameter, for raising skips with 55t payloads from a depth of 1,500m with an overall drive output of
productivity and efficiency for mine hoists even further. This global overview enables ABB to
easily receive indications and drill down to any specific hoist system to see the status of all key performance indicators (KPIs) for that particular hoist. The new version offers KPI settings
for service hoist availability, hoist cycle statistics, brake caliper spring operation times, accumulator pre-charge pressure, deceleration variation, guide rope tension, creep distance and clutching time. And, in these times of cyber-ransom attacks and the like it includes cyber security

16 MW. It has split plain bearings with bearing lubrication, 6-rope sheaves for technology) hydraulic braking system with 12 pairs of BE 250 brake elements, and four sets of SM150 DC indirect converters. Automation equipment includes the machine control system, energy distribution system and a shaft signalling and loading and unloading control system. The large-cage hoisting system for the service shaft has a ground-based 6-rope Koepe hoisting machine of 6m diameter with a drive output of 3 MW. Again it has emergency system, also in the service shaft, is a ground-based 4-rope Koepe hoisting machine 4.5 m in diameter with a drive output of 1 MW and 4-rope sheaves. The special feature of the entire set of
assessments and solutions for protecting customer data. Compatible with this is a product,
unveiled in May that ABB is calling its next-generation mine hoist control system. ABB Ability NGX Hoist Control. based on the latest human machine interface insights. It offers, they say, the most modern and intuitive operator interface. It is standardized, it is scalable, and its purpose again is to reduce costs and improve efficiencies, this time through standardization of control systems. Intended for greenfield sites or upgrades,
hoists is the central control system. The control room is located in the hall of the service shaft. In normal operation the hoisting systems are all in automatic lifting communication that allows the hoisting equipment to be controlled from the cage itself. This enables personnel to reach While these systems are being installed the operator Benxi Longxin has begun with preparations for sinking the second production shaft ito achieve the expansion level to 15 million tons a year in the medium term. Siemag Tecberg is supporting the customer intensively with planning and because of the initial order believes it has a very good chance of being successful with this bid too.
it can adapt to any hoist and replace older and third-party systems. Also, in May this year, the US Department of Labor announced the availability of $10.5m in state grant funding to support mine safety, health training, and education. It is to provide federally mandated training and retraining of miners and mine operators working at surface and underground coal and metal and nonmetal mines. Any state in which mining takes place can apply for the grant. The importance of such training is
shown by a recent case study from Konecranes. A mining manufacturer of
