THIRD TIME LUCKY AS STREET CRANEXPRESS STRIKES GOLD

S

treet Cranexpress (SCE) is celebrating after winning a gold award at the RoSPA Health and Safety Awards – the

UK’s longest-running industry awards scheme – for its health and safety standards working with its clients and at its premises in Sheffield. This is the third time the family firm, which employs over 100 staff, has achieved a RoSPA gold award. SCE’s key operations involve maintaining and repairing thousands of cranes across the UK through its nationwide network of crane engineers. “Health and safety is the number one

priority at Street Cranexpress. We are constantly reviewing and improving our policies and procedures to ensure that all our employees, customers and the general public are free from harm at all times,” said James Eastwood, operations

director, SCE. “We are delighted that our efforts

have not gone unnoticed, but rather recognised and rewarded by achieving a gold honour for the third time.” In addition to its routine refresher health and safety training, SCE ensures each engineer is trained to the LEEA Foundation Course with a plan to progress to the LEEA Advanced Course. It also runs a successful in-house

Training Academy for apprentices, mainly school leavers, who are taught electrical and mechanical skills in the classroom, in the workshop and on jobs around the country with Street Cranexpress qualified engineers.

The academy training area has a

mix of old and new equipment to work on, including intentionally faulty crane systems to test the apprentices’ detection skills.

“We strongly believe in making sure our engineers receive training that contributes to high quality working practices on customer sites,” added Eastwood. Street Cranexpress directors and

senior management are also trained in courses such as the IOSH Safety for Executives and Directors and the NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupation Health & Safety. ●
