Fleet preview Technology:

The ES90’s central portrait-shaped 14.5in user interface screen will be familiar with existing Volvo customers, but this version has an infotainment system powered by Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms and Qualcomm, with Google Maps and Waze embedded and Apple Car Play and Android Auto easily mirrored. Regular ‘over the air’ software updates aim to ensure this currently modern software remains so over the lifetime of the car too. In addition, the ES90 has a 9in driver display and head-up display and an advanced and independently certified air purifier that stops 95% of outside PM 2.5

particulates from getting into the cabin as well as removing 99.9% of grass, tree and pollen allergens. Healthier-feeling passengers should result.

Range, batteries, and performance:

Costs:

The ES90 can be ordered now and starts at £69,650 for the Single Motor Plus model, which includes major safety features plus a fixed panoramic roof, rising to £87,850 for the Twin Motor Performance Ultra, which boasts an electrochromic glass panel roof, massaging front seats and power reclinable rear seats. Production is due to start in late summer 2025.

This EV-only car will be offered in three versions: the top-spec 680hp Twin-Motor Performance all-wheel drive (AWD), with a 106kWh battery offering 435 miles of range and a 4.0-second 0-62mph time; the regular 449hp Twin-Motor AWD (106kWh battery, 435 miles, 5.6-second 0-62mph) and a 333hp Single- Motor rear-wheel drive (92kWh battery, 400 miles, 6.9-second 0-62mph). The 800-volt ES90’s ability to recharge more swiftly than any previous Volvo was also headlined with some 180 miles bankable in ten minutes and a 10-80% charge achievable in 20 minutes – if via an ultra-fast 350kW charger. From a corporate social responsibility perspective, the ES90 also comes with a ‘battery passport’ which uses blockchain technology to allow Volvo to track the raw materials in its batteries’ creation and their wider CO2 footprint.

Equipment:

Lots of exciting kit can be optioned on the ES90, but two stand-out items standard on the Ultra trim are the one-piece electrochromic panoramic roof, which can, as desired, be turned opaque for privacy or to reduce the sun’s glare, or made clear to allow in natural light. Either way, the roof provides up to 99.9% UV protection. The other bit of kit of note, is an awesome 25-speaker, 1610-watt Bowers & Wilkins sound system with spatial audio by Dolby Atmos, fully tested by this correspondent at the car’s Stockholm reveal at high volume, with tunes including among others, the Chase & Status drum and bass remix of Original Nuttah by UK Apache and Shy FX. Short summary: it passes muster, windows up or down.
