MORALT HOLDS KEY TO HIGH QUALITY DOOR BUSINESS

As we start 2023, the seventh year at the Hausham site, Moralt AG looks forward to another strong year’s business

In 2022 the UK market continued to grow with both UK distributors, James Latham and Falcon Timber, with increased sales of Laminesse FireSmoke, the laminated core fire-rated FD30 and FD60 door blanks, and Laminesse FireSound, the three blank specialist high acoustic fire rated door products that are finding their way more and more into hospitality, healthcare and educational projects. Specifiers are seemingly appreciating that fire-rated products with better acoustics are more important for hotel guests, hospital patients and students alike.

The Moralt external door, Ferro, also saw improved exposure in 2022 in the UK, with Deuren in Mirfield and Türmacher in Corby, both producers of high quality doors and doorsets combining their trip to the Fensterbau Frontale exhibition in Nuremburg in July with a visit to the Hausham factory. Moralt’s stand at the Fensterbau Frontale saw solid numbers of visitors from around the globe with pleasingly more than an average turnout from visitors from North America.

The Moralt certification scope increased in 2022 with Intertek now supporting the Moralt product range to British and UL10C standards. Moralt now holds third party membership with BM TRADA Q-Mark, IFCC and also now Intertek. Moralt’s test data improved with the addition of further brands of door RFID (radio frequency identification) access units and more aesthetically pleasing concealed ironmongery into the scope.

In the Middle East, Moralt sales also took an upturn with a couple of large hospitality projects with FireSound door cores, as well as the first Moralt stock in Saudi Arabia via its new national distributor, Kingdom Wood. Klaus Feile and Steven Dennard were able to visit Kingdom Wood’s three sites in Dammam, Riyadh and Jeddah in May, along with a number of door producers and joineries, and also took the opportunity to hold a Moralt product seminar in Riyadh for around 50 attendees.

Back in Germany, Moralt AG has invested in state-of-the-art CNC machinery to further process Ferro blanks and Ferro door kits for the ever-increasing number of end user processors requiring more and more bespoke work. A new CAD/CAM system from Cobus Concept was introduced a year ago, and now a new 5-axis CNC machine centre from Reichenbacher Hamuel, a German specialist manufacturer, has been put into operation. The total investment, including software, handling system and conversion work in production, amounted to just under €1m. “CNC machining and door kits is the future for our Ferro front door blank business,” said Klaus Feile, managing director of Moralt. The technical requirements for this aspect of Moralt’s European business have increased dramatically to take into account complicated rebate geometries, hinge and bottom pockets, sealing grooves, and bespoke face design. A fully finished Ferro door leaf is a great help to the processor who wants to focus on other joinery work and does not have the technical capacity or capability that Moralt can offer.

The Moralt Ferro door kit, which includes the comprehensive Passivhaus certified offer can be delivered ready CNC-machined with door frame, hinges, lock and all necessary fittings and seals, as well as declaration of performance and CE marking. Moralt’s individually manufactured door kits offer fabricators the opportunity for new door expertise and additional business in the high- quality door sector. ■
