Dieffenbacher to supply continuous OSB line in rebuild of Canadian mill

A fire in the press building in May, 2022 damaged beyond repair the existing Dieffenbacher 12-opening press, which Tolko had commissioned in 1995, and much of the surrounding equipment. A state-of-the-art CPS+ continuous press will replace the previous press.

Tolko Industries Ltd has commissioned Dieffenbacher to supply the core components of a CEBRO OSB plant for its production facility in High Prairie, Alberta, Canada.

Hubtex to unveil the second generation FluX series

Dieffenbacher’s scope of supply for the rebuild of Tolko’s High Prairie site also includes the forming station and forming line, and the raw board handling system. In line with the CEBRO smart plant concept, the Press Emission Control System and the Intelligent Air Management System will improve the plant’s sustainability by creating cleaner air inside and outside the production hall.

Hubtex has unveiled some major updates to its FluX electric multi-directional counterbalance forklift truck.

The latest second generation FluX truck for load capacities of up to 3 tonnes, making its debut at LogiMAT 2023, includes a new central drivers’ position and the patented 360° HX steering to the compact three-wheel running gear for the first time.

The new generation of Hubtex’s FluX is designed to handle both pallet and long-load transport in a single vehicle. This hybrid used as a front and sideloader makes the new 3T FluX 30 suitable for a wide range of sectors, from the timber and metalworking industries, through to the building materials trade.

Hubtex says visibility is improved by the vehicle’s new, more compact dimensions, which include a new mast tilt feature. The truck is designed for indoor/outdoor use.

To help timber manufacturers provide transparency on the environmental performance of their products, Arxada has invested in updating the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for Tanalith E. The EPD for Tanalith E, a high-pressure water-based wood preservative, provides a cradle-to-gate assessment covering raw materials, emissions in the manufacturing, shipping and distribution processes, and packaging. Carried out by Dutch consultants, SHR, the EPD has been updated to help Arxada’s customers create a full cradle-to-grave assessment, looking at the environmental impact of timber treated with Tanalith E throughout its full life cycle.

Within the UK, EPDs are voluntary, but their use is rapidly becoming more common in line with growing environmental awareness. “Both public and private stakeholders are increasingly demanding EPDs,” said Andrew Hodge, marketing director for Arxada EIMEA Wood Protection division. “More importantly, as a company committed to sustainability, we think they are simply the right and responsible thing to do going forward. We are investing in EPDs and Life Cycle Analysis across the portfolio of our products. “As an industry we do have pushback on the environmental credentials of pressure treated timber,” he continued.

The new digitalisation solution

EVORIS and the digital service platform MyDIEFFENBACHER are part of the package and represent the latest technology in smart plant operation. “It’s great that Dieffenbacher stepped up so quickly to help us after the fire,” said Fred Chinn, vice-president strand-based business at Tolko.

“Once we rebuild, High Prairie will be better than ever, and our new CEBRO smart plant will be a big part of that.” Mr Chinn believes the plant will produce its first new board by the end of 2023. Once operational, the plant’s production capacity will reach up to 734,000 m3 OSB per year.
