THE HEART OF PHARMACY

The Heart of Pharmacy celebrates the people that make pharmacy so special. From charity efforts to career milestones to personal achievements and tributes, this feature shines a light on the people behind the counter. We would love to hear from you if you have news you would like to share in the next issue. Please contact our Editor, Shelley Gibbins at editor@pharmacyshows.com

Memorable Milestone for Cathy

A Gordons Chemist team member is celebrating a quarter of a century working with the group. Cathy is the supervisor at Gordons Enniskillen branch.

Cathy originally worked at McGovern’s Pharmacy before it became part of Gordons Chemists in June 2003. When the business was acquired, she joined the Gordons team and has been there ever since. Three of the original McGovern’s team are still with Gordons today - Paul, Maureen and Cathy.

“My colleagues and our customers are what have kept me here. I’ve worked alongside some team members since the day I started, and many others for nearly 20 years. The relationships you build over time make work feel like a second family,” said Cathy.

She said it was difficult to pick a favourite memory from the last 25 years, but what stands out most is seeing people grow over the years.

“I’ve watched students complete their studies, go on to get married and start families, and it’s always lovely when they return to visit the pharmacy where they first started. Building those long term relationships has been very special.”

Cathy enjoys seeing customers happy and ensuring the store is well presented and welcoming. “Working in the same community for many years means you get to know customers on a first name basis. You build genuine relationships with them, catch up on their lives, and become part of the local community. I also value the friendships I’ve made with colleagues throughout my career,” she said.

One of her proudest achievements during her career was her move to supervisor. “I’ve had the same area manager for 23 years, and through his guidance, support and dedication, he helped me develop into the person and leader I am today.”
