THE IMPORTANCE OF THE CONSUMER UNIT IN THE HOME.
The First Line of Electrical Protection
The consumer unit is the heart of every home's electrical system, managing and protecting every circuit. From ensuring continuous power to safeguarding lives, a properly specified and installed consumer unit is critical for safety, reliability, and compliance.
Why is the right consumer unit so important?
Protects Against Electrical Faults – Prevents overloads, short circuits, and earth faults, reducing risk to both occupants and property.
Reduces Fire Hazards – Advanced devices like AFDDs and SPDs help prevent electrical fires and mitigate power surges.
Ensures Compliance & Safety – RCDs and RCBOs provide rapid disconnection, meeting BS 7671 Wiring Regulations and protecting against electric shocks.
Deliver Safety & Compliance with Every Installation
Upgrading or installing a fully compliant consumer unit ensures your clients’ homes meet the latest safety standards, offering them peace of mind and long-term reliability. Stay ahead of regulations and provide the best protection for your customers. Choose high-performance BG Circuit Protection for every project.
Future-Ready Performance – Supports modern demands, including EV charging, home automation, and renewable energy integration.
Adaptable solutions – For home alterations where additional circuits maybe needed, by choosing the correct consumer unit with additional spare capacity allows for expansion capabilities.
Main Switch Consumer Unit
Effortless control and maximum protection. This unit features a main switch that connects and disconnects both the live and neutral poles. Typically, these units are populated with RCBO and AFDD devices to supply outgoing circuits. These protection devices will provide overcurrent and earth leakage fault detection to each individual circuit eliminating the need for additional RCD’s to be fitted.
Compact Design: Opting for RCBO’s and AFDD devices in 18mm module format combined with the single profile SPD with its built in over current short-circuit protection can reduce the overall footprint size of a consumer unit required.
