After graduation, she went to work for O’Neal Engineering in Greenville, gradually expanding her responsibilities over the course of nine years, furthering her studies at Furman University, and earning her CPA license. She’s worked in a variety of accounting and financial roles over the years, uses her degree every day, and is currently the CFO at Eptura, a global worktech company with 25 million users across 115 companies.
Even more rewarding for Kathie is the opportunity to mentor others. Judy O’Neal was her first mentor and asked only for Kathie to pay it forward someday. She’s done that both as a volunteer with Ceresa—a full-circle moment given that she was once the Ceresa mentee of Meg Crofton, former President of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts—and with her own co-workers over the years, noting that you don’t have to be a new graduate to benefit from having a mentor.
Kathie shares, “I love mentoring. I get to spend time with my team, and I enjoy finding a diamond in the rough, connecting with them, and watching them bloom in their career.”
When she isn’t working, Kathie enjoys reading, hiking, supporting Ballet Austin’s efforts to bring dance to elementary classrooms, and spending time with her son and daughter-in-law. Winthrop is especially grateful to have Kathie’s insights and experience as a volunteer member of the CBT Leadership Council.
Do you deck the walls?
Whether you graduated a few months ago or several decades ago, we hope you’re proud of all you accomplished at Winthrop! We want to know…where do you have your Winthrop degree displayed? Is it at work or at home? On the wall or on a stand? We hope, at least occasionally, it sparks a conversation or gives you a chance to reminisce about your time in Rock Hill. We’d love to see how you’re representing your alma mater, so send us a photo of where your degree is hanging and we might feature it in our next newsletter!
