THE BALANCE A Word from the Dean

I’m delighted to share with you this first edition of a new alumni newsletter written just for you – our Winthrop CBT alumni! There’s lots of good news about how we’re evolving our curriculum and programs to meet the current needs of employers, like our cybersecurity program featured on page 3. You can always look forward to reading updates about our efforts to ensure that Winthrop’s College of Business & Technology remains innovative and cutting-edge in all we do, because we want you to be proud of your alma mater!

However, you might be surprised to hear that as dean of the College of Business and Technology, I prefer to talk about LIFE-work balance, versus the more familiar phraseology that puts work first. As an accountant, I know it’s all too easy to get focused on the grind. One of my favorite things to do is listen to “For the Love of Cricket” or “Empire: World History,” two great podcasts that have nothing to do with creating a budget, grading exams, or preparing a lecture. What are you listening to or reading that’s helping you, either professionally or personally? Drop us a line at CBTAlumni@winthrop.edu and we might feature your suggestion in our next newsletter.

We truly want this newsletter to be about you. The goal is to share stories that celebrate who you are today (check out page 4 for a CFO and page 6 for an award winner), offer insights and resources that will help you continue to grow in your career (our MSAA might be a great fit – see page 7), and ensure you stay connected with opportunities to support the next generation of Winthrop Eagles (get the playbook for creating internships on page 10).

If you’re ever on campus, please stop by to say hello or introduce yourself. We’re all wishing you a great 2026.

Best regards, Dr. P.N. Saksena, Dean College of Business & Technology Winthrop University 803.992.3339
