NEWS ‘Doughnuts’ a treat on the football field


A football team which kicked off as a Lincolnshire Police affiliated side is raising funds for good causes. N.S.K. Dons, who get their nickname


‘The Doughnuts’ from officers’ alleged favourite treat, started as a way for colleagues who patrol the North and South Kesteven areas to keep fit and have fun.

Earlier this year they collected over


£3,000 for the football related charity Offside Trust, which was set up by survivors of child sexual abuse. Lincolnshire Sergeant Jon Smyth


said: “Our original team members were predominantly all police colleagues and we’ve now got a few non-policing teammates from other professions. Our main goal is raising funds for good causes.” The team took on the Sunday Night


Legends at Sleaford Town FC in May this year and even picked up their first trophy – the newly adopted Offside Trust Cup. Jon added: “We picked The Offside


Trust, whose logo is on our jerseys, because safeguarding and protecting children is at the heart of our work, and personal to many of us. I truly believe sport is a key asset to maintaining good, long lasting health, both physically and mentally.” N.S.K. Dons’ held a charity game


against coaches from Barrowby FC to raise funds for a ride on tractor mower for the club to improve and maintain its pitches.
