ANNUAL NATIONAL CONFERENCE

VIRTUAL EVENT MAKES HISTORY

For the first time in the Police Federation’s 101-year history, the annual national conference was held online due to the pandemic restrictions at the time. The conference held in June, discussed

topical issues related to ‘Policing Under Pressure’. Facilitated by talkRADIO host Ian Collins, the conference attracted an audience of 1,200 delegates from the UK and overseas including Federation representatives, practitioners, policy decision-makers and key policing stakeholders. Stakeholders included the National Police Chiefs’ Council, the College of Policing and Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services.

The agenda featured keynote

speeches from National Federation Chair John Apter and Home Secretary Priti Patel. Panel discussions on topical policing issues covered trial by media, misogyny in policing, recruitment, wellbeing and policing protests. The outstanding work of officers over the past 12 months was recognised with Metropolitan Police Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick presenting the Federation’s annual Contribution to Women in Policing Award and TV presenter Mark Durden-Smith, who hosts the annual awards ceremony, talking to a number of the bravery award nominees.
