ROAD AHEAD FILLED WITH EXCITING EVENTS

Sunday 26 September National Police Memorial Day Canon David Wilbraham MBE (inset)

The Federation is putting the final touches to our impactful 2021 events in the run up to the end of the calendar year – National Police Memorial Day (NPMD), Virtual Roads Policing Conference and the Police Bravery Awards.

NPMD is policing’s annual service of remembrance for colleagues across the United Kingdom who died on duty. Last year’s event was held virtually for the first time in its 17-year history and included contributions from HRH The Prince of Wales and the Prime Minister, with the British Symphony Orchestra providing a stirring musical backdrop. It was such a success that

expectations are understandably high for NPMD 2021, which will take place at 2pm on Sunday 26 September physically at Lincoln Cathedral and then followed by a virtual event. Canon David Wilbraham MBE, the

National Police Chaplain and coordinator of NPMD, said: “Last year in the middle of Covid we produced a virtual NPMD with

a small but remarkable team. The reach of that broadcast was enormous, and it was watched more than 600,000 times. “This year will be a hybrid event, with

350 attendees at Lincoln Cathedral, including families and representatives of the police service. We’re encouraging police forces to hold local services of remembrance and the night before Lincoln Cathedral and other local buildings will be lit blue.” An online tribute wall for people to

remember a family member or police colleague attracted 800 posts last time and will be offered again this year. There is also a commemorative challenge coin and a Just Giving page for donations. “Day by day, officers and staff go about their duty, sometimes in hostile

circumstances and often at personal risk,” said David. “Sadly, some pay the ultimate price. It’s important for the service to remember those colleagues and remind the public that officers and staff are willing to serve and, if necessary, to put themselves in danger to protect others.” On Wednesday 29 September PFEW will be holding our virtual Roads Policing Conference 2021 with an agenda tailored to accelerating change. Thanks to sponsors and our virtual exhibitors, members who attend will receive continuing professional development (CPD). Radio host Ian Collins will facilitate the

event, with the speakers including Police Federation National Chair John Apter, National Roads Policing Lead Gemma Fox, Policing Minister Kit Malthouse and
