MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS
RAISE SOME DOUGH FOR DEMENTIA
The Great British Bake Off has spawned many tribute shows – few more worthy than the Alzheimer’s Society’s sponsored bake. Here’s how you can be a key ingredient in this recipe for success. By Anthony Grech-Cumbo
Alzheimer’s is a particularly cruel illness that robs our loved ones of memory and cognitive ability, leaving them unable to look after themselves, remember relatives and friends, lose their language skills and much more. Advances
are being made in treatment, specifically in preventing the development and progression of the illness, from the more manageable early stages to the far more debilitating and distressing latter stages of the disease. We will all know someone at some point affected by this disease and so raising money to fund research and the work of those who care for patients and their families should be something with

which we all want to become involved. So, if you’re ready, or even bready,
(apologies!), get your flour power ready for a week of baking between 25 April and 1 May to raise money and help fight dementia.

You can download recipe kits and a free fundraising pack from

org.uk/bakefordementia and raise a lot of dough to support the Alzheimer’s Society in the vital work it does. The money you raise will go towards providing support to those who are living with the condition,
their carers and their family members. The depth and breadth of knowledge that the Society’s Dementia advisers have means that the money you raise can help everyone affected by dementia get the support and care that their individual circumstances require. So, for one week, it’s time to bake the world a better place, rise to the occasion and take some whisks in the kitchen. You can take your successes, and your failures, into work to be devoured by your policing colleagues - at a price of course - knowing that the money raised will also help fund critical, ground-breaking research into treating and beating dementia, and ensure the Alzheimer’s Society can continue in its mission. You could even set up a JustGiving page and add to the total which currantly [sic] stands at an impressive £58,505 raised by 2847 supporters. Remember, it’s not just raising dough, it’s raising cash too that can help lead to cracking dementia and get the next medical breakthrough for dementia treatment.
