FIFE TAXI DRIVER BANNED FROM DRIVING FOR 12 MONTHS AFTER REFUSING BREATH TEST

A taxi driver from Cardenden has been disqualified from driving for a year after refusing to take a breath test when suspected of being over the limit. Kudakwashe Chatambarara, 41, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court and admitted failing to provide breath samples as

required by police on August 20. Officers were alerted to a suspected drink-driver and tracked down the vehicle to Chatam- barara’s home. When confronted, officers smelled alcohol but he refused to take a breath test, citing “no comment” and was arrested.

The court heard that Chatam- barara, who works for a housing association and as a support worker, had been a taxi driver until the incident. Sheriff Elizabeth McFarlane imposed a one-year driving ban and a £420 fine on Chatambarara.

UNLICENSED OLDHAM PRIVATE HIRE DRIVER ORDERED TO PAY OVER £4,600

A private hire driver who continued to work despite his licence being suspended, has been prosecuted by Oldham Council. Ibrar Hussain, from Oldham, had been suspended by the Licensing Team after he continued to work despite his DBS certificate expiring which invalidated his insurance. The 32-year-old failed to attend Tameside Magistrates' Court on

September 19 and was found guilty of driving without insurance and a private hire licence. In his absence, Hussain was banned from driving for two years and ordered to pay a fine, costs and surcharge totalling £4,671. The council has revoked Hussain's licences with immediate effect as a result of his conviction. Councillor Elaine Taylor, Deputy

Leader of Oldham Council and the cabinet member responsible for Licensing, said: “In general, taxi standards in Oldham are very good. “However,

where breaches do

occur, the penalty imposed in this case by the court shows that this sort of behaviour will be taken seriously, and the consequences can be severe.”

charged with two separate offences. The first alleges that he failed to possess a valid licence for operating a private hire vehicle in Llanelli, violating the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976. The second charge claims he operated the vehicle without a valid insurance policy, a breach of the Road Traffic Act 1988. Mr. Price has pleaded not guilty to

both charges, having entered his plea on August 9.

The case has been adjourned until October 4 for a case management hearing at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court. If found guilty, Mr Price could face fines, licence suspension, or other penalties as outlined by law. The case remains ongoing, with Mr. Price required to attend the next court date in October.
