GLASGOW PH DRIVER JAILED FOR SEVEN YEARS FOLLOWING “DESPICABLE BETRAYAL” RAPE

A Glasgow PH driver has been sentenced to seven years in prison after picking up a 23-year-old woman from a night out and raping her at his home. Thomas Tosh, 39, attacked the woman in September 2023 after collecting her and her friends from a pub in Clydebank. The High Court in Glasgow heard that Tosh waited until the victim was the only passenger left before turning off his taxi’s GPS tracking system and driving her to his house in Drumchapel. At the time of the attack, the woman was intoxicated and

incapable of giving consent. Prosecutors used a combination of DNA evidence, text messages, and GPS data to prove that Tosh had deliberately concealed his location. He was eventually identified after a friend of the victim found his picture on social media.

Alongside his prison sentence, Tosh has been placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely and is subject to a 10-year non-

harassment order preventing him from contacting the victim. Faye Cook, procurator fiscal, described the incident as a “despicable betrayal of trust by a man who was responsible for getting a woman home safely after a night out.” She added: “Thomas Tosh delib- erately concealed his location as he drove the victim to his home, where he raped her while it was clear she was unable to consent. “I want to recognise the courage shown by this young woman, her strength has helped bring a predatory offender to justice.

BRACKNELL CABBIE CONVICTED OF RAPE HAD HISTORY OF 52 POLICE ALLEGATIONS

A Bracknell cabbie convicted of raping a teenager had a staggering history of 52 criminal allegations before the attack, according to

newly revealed

council documents. Diwan Khan, 39, whose mother Naheed Ejaz served as the town’s mayor, was found guilty of rape in February. His mother was also convicted for perverting the course of justice. Both await sentencing at Winchester Crown Court on April 30. Internal records show that officials had already revoked Khan’s taxi licence in January 2024, months before the rape occurred. Executive director Kevin Gibbs noted at the time that Khan had a “long string of offences: 52 from 2006,” including prison time for

60

driving without a licence. Gibbs warned these records raised “serious questions over his appropriateness for ever qualifying for the issue of a taxi licence.” The documents, obtained via Freedom of Information requests, reveal Khan was arrested in January 2024 for a separate offence involving a vulnerable 19- year-old and was bailed to his mother’s house. Monitoring officer Sanjay Prashar

noted another arrest in July 2023 for a “serious offence” which was never reported to the council, despite Councillor Ejaz being in “full knowledge of this event.” During this period, Khan served as the mayoral consort for his mother, who became Bracknell’s first Muslim mayor in May 2023. While she later stepped back from duties citing ill health, a standards investigation concluded she had “breached the code of conduct.” Regarding the decision to pull Khan’s

licence, Sanjay Prashar

stated: “As the responsible licensing authority, we revoked his licence with immediate effect to safeguard the public.” Khan’s rape conviction followed an incident in the summer of 2024 where he targeted a teenage girl after giving her drugs and alcohol.
