UNLICENSED DRIVER AND PHV OWNER HIT WITH HUGE FINES AFTER MILTON KEYNES STATION CHECK
An unlicensed driver and a PHV owner have been ordered to pay more than £3,000 between them following an inspection at Milton Keynes Central Railway Station. The case began on March 26, 2025, when a Milton Keynes City Council taxi enforcement officer spotted a damaged car in Station Square. The vehicle was licensed by TfL, but a routine check quickly revealed serious legal breaches. The driver, Hassan Mwalim of
Milton Keynes, was found to be operating without a private hire licence, a full UK driving licence, or any insurance. The car’s owner, Maabadi Shaaban Ali Mgidos of London, was also charged for allowing the vehicle to be used illegally. Both men appeared in court on March 27, 2026, where they were convicted of the offences. The court handed down heavy penalties to each person: a £660
fine, a £264 victim surcharge, and £592 in legal costs. In addition to the £1,516 total financial penalty per person, both men received eight points on their driving records. Transport for London has been notified of the convictions. Milton Keynes council has con- firmed that enforcement activity will continue to ensure passenger safety and uphold licensing standards across the area.
CABBIES FINED AFTER BEING CAUGHT IN UNDERCOVER STING OUTSIDE OLD TRAFFORD
Two Manchester-licensed hackney carriage drivers have been ordered to pay hundreds of pounds after they were caught illegally picking up undercover council officers near major sporting venues. Aamar Shahzad Ahmed, 47, and Khalid Mahmood, 60, both
pleaded guilty at Manchester Magistrates’ Court to plying for hire without a licence and driving without insurance. The first incident occurred on July 25 last year during an England vs. India cricket match at Emirates Old Trafford. Licensing officers
SEFTON CABBIE HIT WITH £458 FINE FOR SMOKING IN LICENSED VEHICLE
A Sefton private hire driver has been ordered to pay nearly £500 after being caught smoking inside their taxi. The driver was originally issued a Fixed Penalty Notice for the act, which officials described as "both illegal and unhygienic." The legal trouble deepened when the driver refused to pay the initial fine or speak with enforcement officers regarding the incident. Because the driver failed to

engage with authorities, the case was moved to court for a formal hearing. A magistrate recently issued a final judgment on the matter, resulting in a total penalty of £458. The case serves as a stern reminder to all licensed drivers that smoking inside a professional vehicle is a criminal offence that carries significant financial consequences if ignored.
spotted Ahmed’s vehicle with its taxi sign lit and, after he agreed to take them to the city centre, he was intercepted. Ahmed later claimed picking up the passengers was “an impulse thing.” Just weeks later, on August 9, Mahmood was caught in a similar sting near Old Trafford before a Manchester United match. After being caught, Mahmood admitted he had made a mistake and asked for a warning only. Ahmed was fined £346 and Mahmood was fined £400, with both men receiving eight points on their driving licences. A spokesperson for Trafford Council explained that only taxis licensed within the borough can pick up fares without a prior booking. The council added that the case serves as “another example of a wider problem on match days with drivers from other areas illegally looking for fares.”
