As businesses develop, so do their insurance needs. Take E Travel UK, a family-run

executive private hire company from Hinckley, in Leicestershire, founded by Ian Wilson in 2004.

For the first 14 years of its existence, E Travel UK comprised four drivers insured on personal taxi policies. But when the firm expanded to five drivers in 2018, Ian discussed his situation with specialist broker The Taxi Insurer, who explained the benefits of switching to an any-driver policy.

Benefits of an any-driver policy

As the name suggests, an any-driver policy allows any driver over the age of 25 to drive any insured vehicle at any time, which is very convenient for taxi firms with multiple vehicles and multiple drivers.

As Ian quickly discovered in his company’s early years, adding a driver to an existing personal policy on an ad hoc basis can soon become financially prohibitive.

“If I went on holiday for a week, and I needed to get someone in to cover in one of our vehicles, it was costing me £400-£600 each time to add them. Once we had the any-driver policy in place, it worked out much cheaper.”

Any-driver policies also give taxi companies the flexibility to hire additional drivers with no notice. If a driver becomes ill and unable to work as a result, an any-driver policy enables another driver to take over and work without disrupting the business.

Why use The Taxi Insurer?

Having seen them advertised, Ian was already aware of The Taxi Insurer before first phoning them in 2018 during his annual ring round of insurance providers to arrange his firm’s cover for the year ahead. Why has he stayed loyal to them since then?

“They’ve always been straight and honest with us,” he explains, “and with the cover they give us, whenever there’s an issue, it’s quickly dealt with. That’s what you’re looking for when there’s a problem – you don’t want any hassle.”

Talking of problems, Ian harks back to the

unprecedented and unforeseen upheaval presented by the COVID pandemic. Echoing feedback from The Taxi Insurer’s other customers, such as Britannia Cabs, he points to the support shown by the broker during that period as another reason why E Travel UK has remained on their books.

“One standalone thing that massively helped us through COVID was that The Taxi Insurer allowed me to downgrade my policy from a private hire policy to a social and domestic one. That saved me a lot of money during that time, and then I could bring cars in as I wanted to. I needed them at the back end of COVID, so that was that was really, really helpful.”
