Mr Jamal Miah has been a taxi driver in London for three and a half years. He recently bought his first hybrid taxi, after previously renting one. He

explained that a fellow taxi driver recommended that he contact Cab Direct. Jamal said: “I simply phoned up and ordered my new cab over the phone – it couldn’t have been any easier.”

Popular model The Toyota Prius is proving to be very popular in London and Jamal thoroughly enjoys driving his new cab. Toyota has cleverly combined its 1.8-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and 1.31kWh battery to produce such great economy. Officially, it’ll return as much as 61.4mpg! It’s definitely the fuel-saving properties that get cabbies interested in this stylish car and Jamal agrees: “I chose to buy the Prius mainly for the fuel efficiency – it’s a great car, very smart and reliable and it never breaks down!”

Impressively spacious and quiet The Toyota Prius is great to drive. It’s impressively comfortable, and very quiet. The 502-litre boot isn’t particularly deep, but there’s plenty of space for luggage or a pram. There’s also plenty of room for passengers in the rear and if you need more space for luggage the back seats flip down in a two-way (60:40) split.

Modern Interior The interior is modern and practical, with a 3-spoke leather steering wheel, dual-zone automatic air conditioning and power- adjustable lumbar support on the driver’s seat. Being an automatic model makes it easy to drive. Jamal said: “The gear lever is fantastic and really easy to use; unlike other cars I’ve driven.”

Infotainment system Internally everything is well laid out and the base model includes a seven-inch infotainment screen. If you upgrade to the Business Edition model, you’ll also get a wireless phone charger, push- button start and a bright head-up display, and if satellite navigation is important you should select the Business Edition+.

Cab Direct Jamal concluded “This was my first purchase from Cab Direct and I’ve found the whole process very simple. Having been recommended to them from a taxi driver friend myself I would definitely pass on my high recommendation.”

VAT cLAIMs AND THE TAXI INDUsTRY IN THE UK

VAT claims in the UK taxi industry can be quite challenging and uncertain. It can lead to serious repercussions for both drivers and operators if left unchecked. The Proactive Consultancy Group UK, winner of the best VAT Consultancy 2019 by SME

News Magazine, specialises in taxi firm VAT and is there to make all your VAT issues hassle free and manageable. Since 2007, we have claimed over £7 million of VAT refunds from HMRC on behalf of various firms and clients based on its principle of NO-WIN NO FEE. We have observed that six out of ten taxi firms make significant errors resulting in significant overpayment of VAT. One of the biggest mistakes they make for their tax refund is relying more on the expertise of their accountants than the tax consultants. It is strongly suggested that businesses distinguish the two, since accountants are not tax advisers, they do not specialise in the field and are bound to make significant errors while applying the VAT rules. How does a VAT health checkup work? This is when a competent VAT consultant plays its effective role. The data is then collected

and analysed by one of our professional VAT consultants. The first step is to sign a Non-Disclosure Undertaking (NDU) between the two, which is a guarantee that all the information collected would be kept confidential. The data is simply not accessed without an NDU. The second step is to extract all the financial information of the taxi firm and observe how the firm has worked out the VAT return. Subsequently, identifying the issues one by one with precision. The mistakes are then quantified, and the refund claim is filed with HMRC. Proactive Consultancy Group has never had a VAT refund claim declined since 2007, however it is still important to mention about the NO WIN NO FEE rule. If the claim is declined by HMRC (which has never happened since 2007), there is no fee charged by us for the VAT health checkup. So, what are you waiting for? Get in touch now and let us help you return what rightfully belongs to you.
