If an employee has gone off sick with COVID-19, their workstation, includ- ing telephone and keyboard, vehicle cab etc should be cleaned using nor- mal cleaning materials and methods (and disinfected)


Coronavirus testing


On 24 April 2020, coronavirus testing was extended to all essential workers (and members of their households) in England who have symptoms (high temperature or new continuous cough). Essential workers in the resources and waste sector can now access regional drive-through testing fa- cilities or a home test kit – more informa- tion can be found online HERE.


Good hygiene •


1. Safety arrangements and features, such as emergency escape, machin- ery safety provisions and fixed fire systems are not compromised


2. Screens are in addition to not in place of more effective controls such as good hygiene and social distancing


Screens, once installed, should be subject to the same cleaning regimes as other equipment.


Keep sites and equipment clean


Good hygiene should be part of normal routine on a waste site but there are some particular points to keep in mind during the current COVID-19 pandemic:

Ordinary cleaning, such as with soap and water, alcohol sprays, normal cleaning agents or disinfectant, will kill the coronavirus


Damp dusting should replace any dry dusting


Telephones and computer equipment should be cleaned with wipes or by other means


Clean crockery and utensils with hot water and detergents


Shared facilities, such as toilets and showers, should be cleaned frequent- ly, especially touch points such door handles, toilet flush handles/buttons, light pulls/switches, grab handles.


• Used workwear should be placed in bags for laundry and laundry bags should themselves be laundered (to prevent secondary contamination) or


When looking to prevent the spread of an infection we should all adhere to the following mantra:


CATCH IT – Use tissues to cover their mouth and nose when they cough or sneeze


BIN IT – Place used tissues in a bin (or bag) as soon as possible


KILL IT – Wash their hands regularly with soap and water for 20 seconds


KILL IT – Clean surfaces and contact points regularly to get rid of germs (KILL IT)
