Engaged readers The Shadowers’ Choice Awards highlight the role of the shadowing scheme in engaging readers. It can reach reluctant readers, helping to grow their confidence and literacy skills. It can stretch and challenge confident readers, and allows them to develop new skills as they debate and review with peers.

Each shadowing group will have its own dynamic and group leaders will find the ways of working that best suit their students. However groups choose to take part, students will be part of a much wider experience – not just because they are reading the same books as thousands of others, but also through the voting process and by sharing reviews online. Shadowing groups can start reading as soon as longlists or shortlists are announced simply by pre-ordering book packs from Scholastic, who will ensure delivery coincides with the announcements. When all shadowers’ votes have been
cast, and judges have finished deliberating there is one last chance for everyone who
has taken part to come together at the awards ceremony. Winners from all four awards will be revealed in the live event, and shadowing groups and individuals can follow the ceremony on a live-stream webcast, to find out if their favourite triumphed.
