function in a specific way – the shadowing scheme can be adapted to suit your needs, make it work for you. Some groups excel at the digital elements, some have fierce, furious discussions. Others will be content to simply read the books and others might not make it through the full list. None of it matters. The Greenaway Medal is a celebration of outstanding illustration and should absolutely feel like one! l Don’t be discouraged if your


shadowing group is small. I have found smaller groups are more effective in terms of the quality of discussion and activities and also in terms of developing a relationship with the shortlisted books. Larger groups look great on paper and can work well, but in terms of practicality and enjoyment, less can be more!
